Kobukusa is a piece of decorative cloth placed between tea bowls and utensils and the hand or floor during Japanese tea ceremony. The function of kobukusa is very similar to that of a coaster.
During the workshop, you will have time to design and print your own set of six kobukusa coasters whilst enjoying a cherry blossom tea.
You will be guided through the process of using two different printing techniques; block printing and botanical relief printing.
The unique combination of these two processes will allow you to experiment with creating simple borders and motifs while also capturing tiny details in the surface texture of seasonal plants. The possibilities are endless and you are guaranteed to get surprising and beautiful results.
You will finish with your own set of unique kobukusa coasters that will be ready to collect in store within one week, after they have been steamed and fixed.
This workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and those with some printing experience. No drawing skills are necessary and all materials are provided.
