Sheila Hicks ...on a train to Puerto Montt, in the southern part of Chile: a hand-woven bag that a man was carrying over his shoulder, on top of his poncho, and in which there were four live geese.

a design problem intuitively solved with attention to economy and of course practicality - how to carry four live creatures to market. it was a hand-woven potato sack converted to portable housing by unseeing the four corners, and, in allowing the openings to be as important as the cloth, the geese could poke their heads out and breathe, while the sack contained the rest of what was going on.
